Cult favorite Baretta set the tone for gritty, edgy, street-smart detective series that have dominated the television landscape for decades. Although its network run lasted only 3 years, the show has remained popular through syndication and fan sites. Nominated for outstanding drama series in its second season, the show also featured many guest stars before they became famous, including Margot Kidder, Gary Busey, M. Emmett Walsh, Scott Glenn, Tommy Lee Jones, Wings Hauser, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Dennis Quaid. The show also featured great music, including Simon & Garfunkel and the theme song "Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow" by Sammy Davis Jr.
Baretta launched its first season in the winter of 1975, and went on to become a cult hit, despite its short network run. This fall, Universal will release the first season of Baretta on a 3-disc DVD set. The 13-episode set will include the first season, in its entirety and original broadcast order.
